My father died a few years ago. When I attended his memorial service at the local KH, I asked my husband to time how much of the talk was actually devoted to my father.
40-minute talk; 8 minutes about my dad.

if this site were a religion, what would you name it and who would you elect as elders, ms's, co's, ect,,,,.
i'll start: i would call it the educated loveable and untouchables.
would love to be the elder that says no dissassociation allowed or disfellowshipping!
If this site were a religion, Farkel would be GOD.
i went and saw the book of mormon when i was in nyc last week.
it was superb.
so many great songs and so, so funny.
mamochan13: I had a weird thought - without having been in an insane cult, we would not have things like this Broadway musical, or Mr. Diety, or all Processor's Witchtower stuff (http://www.svhelden.info/witchtower/). Humour and satire has helped us survive.
Yeah, a Broadway play and a few web sites make all those years of being braindead dubs worthwhile.

Qcmbr, you're not a Mormon anymore??!! Good for you! And an atheist, too! -- Congratulations. <---- I guess you can drink one of these now. I'll raise a glass to toast you tomorrow (it's almost 2am here).
But now I'll have to find someone else to make snarky comments about.

Qcumber, are you brave enough to watch a musical that showcases how the rest of the world perceives your religion?
so this jw friend that got in touch out of the blue a few months ago after 24 years of shunning us agrees that the borg is not keen on university.
it is so difficult to keep to your principles because of all the immorality there according to her.
yes same old story we have been hearing for years.. if that is the case they should be fine with distance learning.
What is their excuse about not learning with these higher education facilities?
It takes time away from the all-important work of selling WTS crap.
the newish japanese government is conservative in bent, and its finance minister recently raised eyebrows with the above statement.
japan, as you may know, is a rapidly aging society as the long falling birthrate bites into the demographics.. here's how the english guardian reports this tale:.
let elderly people 'hurry up and die', says japanese ministertaro aso says he would refuse end-of-life care and would 'feel bad' knowing treatment was paid for by government.
That photo of Taro Aso shows he's not exactly a spring chicken himself. Why doesn't he just off himself and save his country both the expense of his eventual medical care and his stupid rhetoric?
i feel cheated that never, not once, as a dub or as a ex-dub, did i experience the presence, manifestation, or just-things-flying-around, of demons.
not so much as a teacup levitating from its saucer.
no inexplicable cold spots.
It's been over a week since my initial invitation to all demons great and small.
My home has remained free of anything that goes bump in the night. My person has not been contacted, attacked or possessed.
My coffee has remained undrunk, except by me.
I know this proves little to believers. But I decided to try anyway in the tiny hope that any lurking dubs, who may have shuddered when they read about my demon experiment, will have their eyes opened just a bit by the fact that the most tempting demon bait I could devise -- my open invitation of my home and myself -- failed to produce any kind of paranormality.
Honestly, dubs, the next time you hear another demon story, check it out. Do a bit of research. It won't kill you. Last time I looked, the WT didn't print the full names of those supposedly attacked by demons. Why? So you can't check it out!
Demons in the 21st century. Good grief.
Parakeet.
the latest magazine has an article about being like noah- and the parallels between jws and noah are uncanny- it's amazing really!
here's a couple of the pics:.
(yes the captions have been tweaked a little...but not much!
Where are the malaria mosquitos? the cockroaches? the tsetse flies? the Ebola virus?
if we are to serve jehovah because of 'selflessness' and because 'love him' and not because of 'what he does for us', how is the 'promise of the paradise' not selfish?
the faith hinges on it!.
this has bothered me for a long, long time..
It's a great example of Skinnerian operant conditioning. Rewards for good behavior and punishment for bad behavior. Works on monkeys. Works on humans.
It's the basis for all faith-based religions.
